hiya.....
I wnat to transfer my own collection of C=64 disks to my PC for use with WinVice.
I have bought a XE1541 Cable, I have 2, 1541 drives still that both work.
I have downloaded the Star Commander Software from the sta.c64 site but am totally at a loss as to getting the software installed.
Can anyone here give me the Ultimate "Idiots Guide" on installing Star Commander under Windows XP Home SP3.
I'd apreciate any help that you can give me, I've been googling for 2 days now trying to find an answer and as a result...... I'm totallly confused
Thanks in advance.....

HEY! Cabbie, I've missed you.
i know the pain about transferring disks on XP.
newer versions of star commander freeze on my machine.
you could try the older version SC081.
but like you, i had no luck using it.
The only way i managed it, was using a patched version of a very old program called 1541p.com, with a special cable i had made for me.
this only worked on a DOS 386 or 486 machine, and took 10 mins a disk side.
this burnt out the 1541 drive and killed the laptop i used.
so it cost me £400 to transfer my disks.
there are much faster and cheaper ways with devices like this.

KC has written this script that works (with the right setup)

or i can send you the latest GB64 v7 collection if it's just a quick fix your after. Most of your games will be in it.
if it's a particular file/game on you disks you want.
just request it. i might have it.

hey.... long time no see/hear, thanks for the reply, that script looks awsome, I'll PM you a proper reply to your comments as it would take up far too much space here, I just want to install Star Commander on my XP, if I can do that then the problem is solved, it's not any particular game that I'm after, I have a lot of my old MC routines stored on floppy that I'd like to keep
