List of Home Computers (With Commercial Games)

I am attempting to list all the home computers that were also used for games (I'm basing this on 'commercial' game releases to class it as a gaming platform). Reason for this is the lists you tend to find online just list all home computers including hobby kits, some business only systems, clones etc.

So I want to make a definite list of computers you could have had at home and purchased games for (and are not clones of other systems).

Not including consoles as they are far more easily sourced. Any additions/removals or amendments would be appreciated.

EACA Video Genie can be considered a clone of the regular TRS-80 series.
The TRS-80 CoCo series is distinct from that (i.e not compatible).

NEC PC60/80 series (just to clarify, the different NEC series are usually incompatible to each other, except with early PC80 to PC88.
It does not apply to late PC80 models.)

Thanks to Starscream I have updated the above master list with the missing models, corrected the NEC PC entries, removed the EACA clone and added the additional TRS-80 series (boy is that confusing !).

Anymore additions, corrections, amendments please post.

Remember just I'm just after a complete list of home computers with a commercial game library (however small), not interested in business computers or the hobby/kit/micro computers.

Once again thanks to Starscream for the great info, when I started this I really didn't realise how many of these there were !

Depending on how you define business computer, there are probably more. A lot of systems were not geared towards gaming capability or home use, but that didn't necessarly mean a home user couldn't buy them and order a few games for it. This probably applies to a lot of early CP/M compatible systems and PC-variants like say, the DEC Rainbow (there's to my knowledge no emulator available for that anyway).

I just noticed that the Macintosh is missing from the list though! Dunno if a Gamebase makes sense with it from the emulator-frontend perspective.

Well I was thinking more of the systems you could physically go to a store and purchase a game, probably stretch to mail order of commercial games (ie not PD or shareware).

I'll add Macintosh to the list, but like you I'm not sure how feasible a Gamebase would be.

Updated to show the NEC PC98 has a Gamebase

To keep things as accurate as possible I would change 'Vic 20' to 'Commodore VIC 20' and 'Oric' to 'Tangerine Oric-1' and 'Tangerine Oric Atmos'.

I think there was an Oric Stratos and and Oric Telestrat or maybe these were the same machines.

Thanks for the information on the other Oric systems Stanstimer. I have updated the entry to show the Oric series rather than each model. I will amend if these are incompatible or not part of the same family.

I have also removed the Vector system as after looking it up, it doesn't meet the criteria of Home Computer the list is about.

Also removed Timex Sinclair as this is basically the US version of the Spectrum.
