Apple2GS

Tue May 19, 2009 6:41 pm

This is a gamebase of the Apple2GS machine containing over 300 games and screenshots. The Apple2GS is a 16bit computer system very similar to the Amiga.

The frontend is available from http://underground-gamer.com/ and is over 400Meg

Can I echo the gratitude...
Always appreciated when someone posts links to a non U.Gamer download. I *was* able to login for a while, ages ago... but as they rotate accounts, kill inactive (I mean, not used for 3 weeks means inactive???) accounts, it is a bit of a pain trying to use that service.
Not to say that they don't have stacks of great data!

Anyway, back to the point...
THANKS!!!

I never experienced this computer...
It is SWEET for a retro 'apple'..
I have yet to 'play' anything, but the screenshots of the games are far superior to what I expected.

I will be googling the history of this machine tonight.
Thanks for this gamebase.

rom error?

Wed May 20, 2009 2:02 pm

I changed the default GFX from direct3d to direct draw (limitation of my GFX card here, IE got a bitchy complaint when running a game).
I then tried running airball (and eventually arkanoid) .
I get an error ..
"GS/OS needs Rom Version 01 or greater. See your dealer for a rom upgrade"
I see 2 zips (rom files) for the apple in the mess0131b\roms directory.
Do I need to unzip, relocate, point to one of these from within mess?
(I never really used mess, as it is a bit of a ... well, you get the picture.)

Aside from that, looks great.
Any help (from someone who usually can work this sort of stuff out in a few mins), appreciated.

For problems with roms, use the manage emulators option to change the rom version, this is located in the Gemus drop down. Rom version 1 seems to work the best.

As I run everything from relative paths, I tend not to use the 'manage emulators' drop down...
However, if you shuffle the 2gs to the top in the 'emulators.ini' file, then it all seems to work.
You can of course right/click on the play game button and choose manually.

Thanks for the point in the right direction.
