Please help looking for 2 Breakout games

Both were freebies from one of the C64 magazines, but I can't remember which.

One was a fairly simple side scrolling one, basic powerups I think, but the difference was that if you got your ball through to the other side it would go to the next screen, if you lost your ball you had a chance to "catch it" in one of your previous screens. There were two generations of this game, but a fair amount of levels.

The other was an awesome side on one which you could play either to the left or right. Apart from having to clear the screen, there were things like heads and other sprites floating around, other distractions a little metal looking thing which if it caught your ball, would "eat it" and spit it out, or a centipedey looking thing which if it bumped into your paddle you couldn't move it.

Arrgh I really cannot remember their names!

Was the first game a two-player-game?
