Cannot open file,File Already open

Thu Feb 07, 2008 9:37 pm

Hi All,

I have seen this before on the forum ....where is it?

I have about 14 entries that i cannot attach.(Demobase 64)

Is it because the disk has no name?

Please excuse me if i'm not in the right place

error

Fri Feb 08, 2008 1:59 pm

Hi Sjakie43!

i have also had this error on a disk image.
i had a "filename.prg" and "filename.d64" which caused it.
if the file is zipped it stores the file at c:/gbgame/filename
close gamebase and delete the file from this folder.
use "scan and fix errors" with gbtool on your demobase.mdb

you may have to edit the filenames to run using Access.
if the error still occurs, you may even have to delete the entry for the file.
i think it's a rezip option in the script that fails.??

also you could try using GBv.1.1 and see if that fixes the problem.

good-luck with it

Actually I've only encountered these errors since going up to Gamebase v1.2. Maybe something in there?

OK, I researched the problem.

The message "File already open" should probably be stricken from the error string, because the true error is "Invalid Emulator File" (shown at left, above the D64 file viewer).

The D64 in question has a blank title/disk name. It is possible that a new feature added to v.1.2 to strip trailing spaces has broken the D64 viewer when file or disk names are completely blank.

I could make a quick change to the front-end to check for this situation if the problem is very common. We may wish to wait for other bugs to be reported before releasing an update - I'll check with Michael on this.

This sounds like the bug previously identified. The most expedient solution for you would be to edit the .d64 files to give these disks a name with at least one character. Maybe you can use Star Commander, D64 Editor, Copy64, or equivalent..

Could it be unusual characters in the Windows filename, rather than the disk name?

try this

http://www.zshare.net/download/105435429ac38517/

if this works, it was the filename starting with a ">"
or the trailing spaces at the end of the file name.

so renaming all the files will fix em. :D

I have tried the Westpac demo.

When I select a disk without a disk name, I get the 'file already open' message. After closing the Game Selector Window, the file tera-Westpac.d64 is still in the folder GBGame\Rezip. When I try to delete it, I get an error message 'Access denied'. So the file is kept open by the frontend, even if the Game Selector window is closed.
After closing the Gamebase frontend, the d64 file is closed and deleted automatically from the GBGame\Rezip folder.

When I give the D64 file a disk name (using DirMaster) and re-zip it, I still get the 'file already open' message if I didn't close and restart the Gamebase frontend after the error message.

So I think you can get the demos working this way:
When you select a file in the front-end and get a file alreay opened message:
- close the Game Selector window and close the Gamebase frontend
- Unzip the D64 file from the zip file
- Give the disk a name
- Re-Zip the D64 file and overwrite the old zip file
- Start the Gamebase frontend
- Select the demo again. This time you will not get the error message.
- Every time you get the error message, close the Gamebase frontend, give the disk a name and start the frontend again

At least this works for me.

but did it work with westpac? not for me :(

@KC>I have tried the same thing you did with westpac,
but no change :(

Terra Westpac (renamed)
(left arrow followed by space continues demo)
also this requires true drive emulation to load in VICE.

http://www.zshare.net/download/10580143c4947be5/

this has the same problem as the wizball demo.

1) no disk volume name
2) trailing spaces at the end of the filenames.

if this works then it's case solved. :D
