I got an error 429 about an activeX component which cant be created when I run the gamebase engine after install.
GBToolbox works fine.
I found a lot of help on internet for that kind of error, and I installed several dll to try to get it fix but nothing work for me.
Help !

Error 429 when running gamebase
Have you downloaded and run the full install?
I got the problem trying to run Gamebase from a backup of gamebase, copied off another machine. Gamebase won't run without an entry in the registry, the full install will do this for you.
While we are on, be careful not to install Gamebase too deep in folders, away from the root;
i.e. 'c:\Program Files\Gamebase' ...is fine
'c:\Program Files\Blah\BlahBlah\SomethingElse\Gamebase' ...is probably too deep, it will cause another error crash associated with the recognition of names.

Re: Error 429 when running gamebase
Well, having just done a ful re-install I stil get the same error.
I have several GB's all now running happily with relative pathing (even my amiga one), so I am loath to 'uninstall' just in case it screws something up in one of the subdirectories. It took a while to get it all working, but a 3rd part app has stuffed up a few things, and I have only just noticed / had time to try GB.
As ver 1.2 does not need dll's registering any more (?) what does the installer do that 'has' to be done, in order to allow this to run?
If it is just a registry entry, what is it?
Arthur.

Re: Error 429 when running gamebase
I do not want to have to flatten my XP environment, but I have removed and reinstalled 3 times now, all with no success. (yes, I rebooted!)
PLEASE Gamebase authors, can you assist? Is there a registry key I can add (even manually if need be) to stop this from happening. I probably have a well polluted registry (Same pc for 2 years without a reinstall so far), and the problem is I use it for a multitude of sins. Starting from scratch would just be too much work (at this time).
Is there a completely stand alone version of the frontend (IE unzip to a folder, and just *run*) yet, or something that is close? I will sometime need to reformat install my PC, but for work reasons this is not an option right now.
I would like to update my various gamabases, but I cannot launch any of them now. PLEASE gamebase authors, can you help this long time user / fan of your app?
Kind regards,
Arthur.

This is a list of DLLs included in the full GameBase installer.
Don't know if they are all mandatory but maybe this information is of help
To be able to execute GameBase from a clean system or an external media it might be enough to include most of them in the GB program folder.

:)
I forgot to reply to the previous post.
That works 100%
I tested by having all the files mentioned at the root of a gamebase folder.
I then have the specific gamebase in its own subfolder.
I use relative pathings in all the .ini's
This works as a truly portable and non installed gamebase experience.
I even tried it in a virtual PC environment - works right out of the box.
I *DID* try runnning as a standalone from a DVD backup, but it failed as it could not create a .ldb database file.... SO close!

Easy answer... AMIGA!!!!
Amiga Gamebase is huge, the c64 with longplays also is (ahem) sizeable.
Plus, I would need a few usb sticks.
Better to enjoy a system for a month or so, then change.
also, the c64 filenames for some of the games/extras etc exceeds the relaxed joliet ruling, so I need to archive to a .zip before burning to DVD/s
