Can I use these rom files?

Fri Feb 24, 2006 3:14 pm

I got hold of a torrent that claimed to be the "Gamebase64 v3" romset. However, when I downloaded it none of the zips are in folder 0-9,a-z etc. and all the zip files have spaces instead of underscores in them and are ever so slightly different in name than the one that comes up in the status bar of GB. I'm using v3 of the database. Is there anything I can do with these roms aside from adding them all in myself? All the zip files appear to be there, thousands of them, but their names are a bit out. Why would this collection even exist if I couldn't use them easily with the GB frontend?

Try here:-

You will probably need to sign up on that forum to see that post, download the GoodGB64 v3.00 rar in that post and use it with clrmame. Use the dat file to rename the files to the GBC standard

Thanks for that. I used the dat file and it only found 3 things to change. I was just about to bang out a reply when I noticed the batch file that renames all the files and moves them to the correct folder and now it's all working oerfectly so thanks very much.

Bit confused as to why the batch file even needs to exist. Having the files in the form I had them in is obviously quite common if the batch file exists but why aren't the torrents/downloads packaged in the layout that the GB frontend accepts straight from the start? The batch file isn't very well "advertised". On the forums of the site where I got the original torrent they have the dat file but no mention of the batch file to use aftgerwards. Any ideas why this is?

There are several 'goodtools' for various collections of emulator images. There is a whole online community (ftp/www/irc/usenet) based around the image sets that these cover...hence you you will often find that it is relatively easy to get these images (and a good reliable way of getting the images). Cowering meets the criteria for a renaming tool for the GBC as he provides a means of converting the files back into the names needed by GB64 and all the nfo files in the zips are retained. People who collect the goodsets generally prefer the same standard names as the other sets use...hence why you find on the forums that they make no mention of the other included dat/bat file in the zip. But it's there and that's good enough.
