sounds to me like you've got your joystick contols mapped to the keyboard, and your using space as fire, right? change it to numpad for joystick control and right ctrl for fire or use a joystick/gamepad, hope this helps :D

i've just tested the game on my pc, and it works fine, go to your ccs64 folder and delete the c64.cfg file, then start the emu, it will recreate the c64.cfg with the default settings, then try loading the game again, i'm pretty sure you've got something setup incorrectly, unless your spacebar is knackered :?

If you are using GameBase, then the joysticks can get auto-assigned through the GEMUS script without you even knowing it. You can comment out the section with the $CONTROLPORT... fileds in it.

The other possibility is that you have firebutton 2 or 3 assigned to the keyboard even if using a real joystick, but you have already said you checked that.
