Hey!
I've gotta say, Sjakie43 and .Mad you guys have done a fantastic job organizing and collecting all this GREAT stuff! - And, thanks to Paul and KC for helping us all to get it to work with Hox.
I've mentioned elsewhere on the site that I'm not particularly a "Gamer". But, I AM a "Preserve-ist". And without dedicated people like yourselves, this stuff would just "Rot out and Die".
A lot of the Demos are *very* impressive! I'm STILL amazed at what the C64 can do... And, I've had one since 1986!!
Nice Job!!

maybe there's an option to run as Administrator.
(just a guess)
do you just get that error in this Demobase, or in other Gamebases as well.
are you using the latest beta of Gamebase V1.3?
i know there is a BUG in it.
1) Backup all your Gamebases.
2) uninstall Gamebase, delete all the install DIRs.
3) start again with a fresh install of Gamebase v1.2
4) copy Gamebase v1.3 (21st feb 2010) files over it.
it's worth a try.
are you using VISTA / WIN7?oknihcap wrote:I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, but no matter what demo I click on, I get this:
Invalid File referenced in script function
Do you want to continue running the game anyway?
Any idea what could be causing this?

Are your emulators on the C:\ DIR or on another drive like E:\
for example.
check your emulators.ini for correct paths
also you might need these Associated Script Files from
Star Commander.
(1): SC.EXE or SCMAIN.EXE (optional)
put these in the Demobase\Scripts\ DIR
EMULATORS.INI
[Hoxs64 v1.0.5.27]
UseShortFilenames=1
SupportedTypes=D64;D71;D80;D81;D82;G64;G41;X64;T64;P00;TAP;PRG;CRT
EmulatorPathFile=C:\Program Files\GameBase\Demobase C64\Emulators\Hoxs64\hoxs64.exe
ScriptFile=Hoxs64.txt
UseDefaultTypes=0
WaitFinish=1

Okay, I tried a few things. mad, I checked the scripts folder, and SC.EXE & SCMAIN.EXE are both already in the scripts directory. I also checked the EMULATORS.INI and the Hoxs64 v1.0.5.27 data is already exactly as you provided. I'm also running XP SP3. All the paths are checked, and my other gamebases are running okay.
Paul, I've left the order for the emulators alone in Gemus, just as they were set up by default. So the first emulator in the list is WinVice v2.1.
Still no luck getting this to run.

Eeek..
Just tried my setup and it's the same
Could it be the script file is not compatible with this version of Winvice?
I'm using 2.2
Nope, just saw the error happens before it hits Winvice and the Genem is looking for a file that it can't find...
Going to look where the vice ini is..

Just to clear up the confusion, it's the Winvice scrpit that's in question here, I went back a version of Winvice so it was 2.1 as per the demo base so I'm wondering if my Winvice script is up the duff.
Anyone who's not getting this error care to post up their winvice.txt please

it took me a while to duplicate the error.
but i think i have found the problem.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JF7E4YRB
This is for gamebase v1.3 ONLY!!
the script is searching for these two files...
C64.cfg - CCS64 DIR (looking for my DIR settings)
Vice.ini - WinVice DIR (not created in WinVice 2.2)
i have edited these files to get a default setting for most PCs.
and this works 100% for me.
but i recommend you edit these files yourself,
to create default settings for how you like it.

Still getting the same error, overwrote my setting / dirs with yours, re did the paths and its a no go still.
I noticed my database was much bigger and I can only imagine that when I used the utility with the latest GB 1.3 beta it adjusted all the extra fields etc.
I may now get rid of the GB dir and redo do it's install from scratch after backing up the GBases

Nope, still the same with a re do of Gamebase, both WinVice and CCS64 seem to trigger the error but I'm stuffed as to why it's not working, the two files you mention are where they are meant to be.

Thought I had sorted it when I realised you meant editing those two files prefs, had not done that.
Did it to match locations on my D: drive with the correct file path in both and still the same
Is there a debug way of running Gamebase to see what it's crapping out on?

The Only way i can get that error is to add a semicolon
to the associated script file.
in the emulators.ini
code emulators.ini
[WinVICE]
UseShortFilenames=1
SupportedTypes=D64;D71;D80;D81;D82;G64;G41;X64;T64;P00;TAP;PRG;CRT
EmulatorPathFile=C:\Program Files\Gamebase\Demobase C64\Emulators\WinVICE\x64.exe
ScriptFile=WinVICE.txt
;1=C:\Program Files\GameBase\Demobase C64\Emulators\WinVICE\vice.ini
UseDefaultTypes=0
WaitFinish=1
2=
maybe you need to run WinVice2.2 from the demobase emulators directory first. (not through gamebase)
so it can write some reg settings.
if your Gamebase 64 v07 runs ok.
copy and use those settings for Demobase paths.
example
set emulators.ini path in Demobase c64 as follows...
C:\Program Files\GameBase\GBC_v07\Emulators\WinVICE-2.2
that should work.
to the associated script file.

Thanks for the try but nope, both the Game database and the demo one fail to run Winvice or CCS64 without that script file missing error.
The upside is that if you carry on the script it runs fine, just a shame I can't find a way to make Gamebase make a log or run in a debug mode so I could see what it's complaining about.
