GB NES - changing rom format to match TOSEC

Fri Aug 18, 2006 10:54 am

I have not even looked at this for wayyyyy to long, but have decided to use an alternative romset and will be changing the Database to match the files.
Once done I shall start once again to add to this project.
(had too many irons in too many fires to also undertake this, but I am determined to at least get the games entered, extras can wait for now).

Why TOSEC? I don't really know much about it, but would guess that GoodNes has a larger user base.

What do you think?

I've distilled a set of 3500 NES roms into about 950 games, and imported them into Gamebase. Most of them have screenshots. Arthurs extras are not included.

If anyone still cares ... :D

...as I had to 'put on the very back burner' my NES gamebase due to work and personal reasons, I would love to have this.
Please feel free to use my 'extras' as I spent many weeks finding, downloading, resizing, and entering the extras/manuals/walkthroughs/cart scans etc.
For some, the extras are not that interesting, but for others, the manual, PDF, box artwork etc. helps to make the 'experience' of enjoying the game more 'complete', or 'retro' if you like.
anyone can download a rom and play it, but to get some real background on the game (I even put comments into my database!) .. can make it seem a tad more like, 'reliving the experience'.

Regards, (and tons of kudos).
Arthur.

Those are nice extras. I just merged the gamebases. There are now a few duplicate entries, but that's not such a big deal I think.
You want the merged database then?

I would very much appreciate a merged version.
I really did want to continue (I actually thought that the NES would take next to no time at all to complete), and there are TONS of extras, manuals etc to add..
But, life got in the way.
If you send me a cd, I cna send you a cd with all the extras I have here (I still have some PDF manuals, etc I think somewhere)..
I will did out what I have, I know I have a definitive USA release list ..
do you want that?

Regards,
Arthur....

Just send me your address, and the CD will be on it's way!

More extras would be great. I don't know how much, if any, more time I will have for the project either... but at least it's one more step on the way. I'm waiting for better coverage of NES by TOSEC. If that happens, I might do an update.

Feel free to post the merged gamebase on your Gamebase NES site.

There's now 200 (PDF) manuals, for the 950 games.

Updates like these are what makes Gamebase such a great repository for retro gaming.
Sure, there are 3d frontends (which I also love and use), but for simple fact driven, extras laden, game launchin' (sorry!) fun.. gamebase will always be a parmanent install on my pc!

BTW (off topic) when will the speccy update to GB be available on Emule?
I have searched daily since it was mentioned, and it still has not appeared.
I have a stack of cassette covers and 'tapes' I have scanned
I would like to add to my gb collection.

Arthur,

I have released the spectrum gb file on emule as "spectrum ZX gamebase hillelr.zip". I am new to emule so maybe I am doing something wrong? I have placed it into my share folder which afaik should be searchable. There is a buddy list, I will add you to that, no problem and that should give you direct access no?

I will check it out and get back to you unless you can help me.

I connect to the emule network and also to the Kad network.

I have emule on almost every night of the week from about 10:30pm to 7:00am Australian eastern time.

"it"... what do you mean by "it"?
roms can easily be renamed by a rom rename utility
